Killing Time asked:
I have over 15 years successful sales/sales managment experience in the mortgage industry. I am searching the job postings online, monster, career bulider, working with a few recruiters that havent been very helpful, working contacts I have and cant find anything in the mortgage industry or anything else. I am a single dad that is getting very nervous and need something quickly. Any advice on my job search?

It should be no surprise that the mortgage industry is a bit of mess right now. Even those companies that are solid are still making changes to prepare themselves for the inevitable changes to the industry as a whole. As such, hiring is down. Not to mention that because so many companies have laid people off (or gone out of business) there are many more people seeking jobs than there are open positions.
You should consider taking your sales experience and your management experience and consider what else you can apply it to. The job market is tight, but if you expand your search to include a wider range of sales and management positions, you might do better.
Might be time to consider a career change. You can starve to death waiting for an industry in stress to pick up.
You can always go back to your industry when it expands again.
Personally, with a mortgage officer back ground, I would call the local community college and ask about rehab for older workers and other governemnt subsidized programs available to return to school and get a new career, like CPA. They never have slow downs, everyone has to file taxes, even when they are going bankrupt, they still have to file taxes.
I found my current job on craigslist. I don’t know how you’d apply that to your field but I’m sure there’s a way. It’s time for you to get out of the box and be uber creative. Any chance you can turn your skills to self-employment? This might sound crazy, but a lot of men are becoming nail techs which can be done in a matter of weeks. Sales and management skills can be very useful in that field and you can bust out your creativity. Depending on your personality, you could really have a good time with it. The reason I mention it is that old truism that in tough times, men buy beer and women buy make-up. We’re in for a rough patch, they say, so alcohol and beauty could become even more lucrative fields than they’ve already become.
