I’ve been applying for numerous jobs online in Las Vegas, but have had very little response back. I currently live in Texas. Has anyone here had success with finding a job via the internet? Also, if so, how long did the process take you?

Thanks!
I’m not interested in working from home or owning my own business… I just want a normal M-F 8-5 HR job…:) But thanks anyway Ayden…

How I wish we could keep the solicitations off serious questions.

If you read Y!answers, you will find that a lot of people are having your problem these days.

But specific to your situation: a lot of times, especially in a tight market when they have tons of applicants, employers do not take as seriously out-of-state applications. You are not as good a prospect as someone who already lives there.

If you have a friend/relative who lives in the new location, you should borrow their address. If not, then you have to make it clear in your cover letter that you are definitely planning to move to the new location, and indicate when you will be there for interviews.

Although many on-line applications say that cover letters are optional, they aren’t. Many employers will ignore resumes with no cover letter.

You’ll have a very difficult time getting a response from outside your immediate area. There are people unemployed everywhere, and unless you have a specialized skill or training, they have zero reason to “import” employees.

That said, online is the only way I’ve been able to job search. What I did was create a Favorites folder and sub folders that I went through daily or weekly and hit a URL one by one looking for updated job listings. I went to the web sites of large companies and major employers and saved their career URLs, as well as cities, counties, schools. In your case you could create one of the hotels, etc. Fortune just published it’s list of the best places to work. The last time i was hunting I looked up the list and found their career sites.

Once you’re assembled all the places you want to work, and some major job sites like CareerBuilder and HotJobs, start applying. It’s good to have a plain text resume so you can copy/paste to online forms. Job hunting in itself is a full time job.
